Bob grow up in Twinsburg, Ohio, where he learned to fly in the mid 1960's in a Aeronca L-3 with his dad, Albert. Flying has been part of the Essell family tradition for a few generations. Bob's grandfather, Theodore, built his own bi-plane which resembled a Curtis. Albert learned to fly in the early 1950's on the GI bill and owned several classic tail-dragger aircraft.

Bob and his father purchase Liberty Airpark in Ravenna, Ohio in 1976.
Bob was very active in the ultralight community.  Bob and his wife Bonnie operated Liberty Airpark until 1996.
Bob was an Advance Flight Instructor for ultralight and instructed several 100 students.
Liberty Airpark was one of the largest Ultralight Flight Training Centers in the U.S.

Bob started flying in airshows in the early 1980, at first doing flight demonstrations, then moving on to solo aerobatics, and then added wingwalking in 1990. He retired from airshows in 2009.
In addition to instructing, and performing in airshows, Bob has built and serviced a wide variety of ultralights and light sport aircraft.

Bob is a commercial pilot, CFI-SP. Bob is an former member of U.S. World Microlight Team.
Bob completed his schooling for his FAA Certified Repairman Light Sport Aircraft and Rotax Engine Repair.
